India, one of the most fascinating countries to travel. Over a billion people live here. That makes Indians the second largest population in the world, next to the Chinese. Therefore it is known for the crowded and large cities. For example Bombay, Delhi, and Calcutta. And huge buildings like the famous Taj Mahal in Agra. Yet, there is also a very calm side in India. For instance, take some local lessons in yoga or meditation for your inner peace.
Culture in India
Because of several waves of immigration, the Indian culture is a true melting pot. Hence, Indian culture shows the many small and major differences between the various populations. Also due to the traditional caste system that has been of great influence in Indian history. As a result, there are many contradictions to be discovered in people. For instance local religion, traditions, wealth, music, and in clothing.
Besides, did you know India has the largest film industry in the entire world, because of Bollywood? Although it shows an over exaggerated view of the Indian culture.
Food in India
Almost everybody is familiar with the Indian cuisine. It has its influences all over the world. Of course, the Indian curries are famous. Indians use a lot of spices, cereals, rice and fresh herbs in their dishes. ‘Puri Bhaji’ is a combination of two dishes served together where ‘Puri’ is a puffed up, deep fried Indian bread. ‘Bhaji’ is a Maharashtrian stir-fried mildly-spiced potato curry.
Aside from curries, tikka and tandoori are also well known Indian delights. Another dish is kofta. You can eat the kofta together with tasty Naan bread.
Unlike other cuisines, the Indian is characterized by all the different small portioned dishes that are served and eaten together. Every dish is typically eaten with lots of side dishes. This is called Dal. It is a perfect way to get a taste of the true Indian culture. Therefore we highly recommend you to try it!
