Support local Guatemalan people
On the other hand, you are also helping a local Guatemalan family. Your presence at their home is a gift for them as well. Guatemalan people have to work hard and make long days to make just enough money to pay their bills. Being part of ResiRest is an option for them to earn some extra money. Also, it gives them the chance to practice their English. Especially in Antigua, having the ability to speak English is a big plus, since it makes it easier to find a job, as there are a lot of jobs in tourism here.
We asked one of the local Guatemalan people who joined ResiRest how they feel about meeting travelers and sharing a meal with them. Meet our cook Carolina, who is located in Jocotenango, just outside Antigua. In daily life, she is working at a cooking school. So, enough experience in cooking in this family! She tells us:
“We feel very lucky to be part of ResiRest as they give us the chance to meet new people and to acquire some extra income for our family. We love to invite people to our house as we are a family that really like to share with other people. Especially when it is about food! We like to make them feel at home like they are our family.”
